Nev Brewin, having drawn and painted figuratively in many different styles, took himself off to an isolated French farmhouse for a few months to see if a particular style would emerge. After studying forms of nature – bark, lichen, seedpods; he used collage and paint to develop an abstract rendition. Later, he incorporated cityscapes- neon light, graffiti, exploring where nature and urban life intersected. Over time his paintings have become wider, often involving vertical strips, combining scraped raw colour and intricate patterning. He often works on strips of wood painted and repainted which are placed together to find an interesting dynamic.
